Frequently Asked Questions

How much are adoption fees?

GE DIGITAL CAMERADogs and puppies are $175-$300 and cats and kittens are $75-$135.

Why are your adoption fees so high and vary so much?

Many of our adoptables come from shelters, with no prior medical, or from neglectful situations.  This can mean that they’ll require more than the routine exams and vaccinations we give and will instead need extensive medical treatment which can add up fast.

What is included in the adoption fee?

All of our adoptables are given a thorough exam by a licensed veterinarian.  Additionally, the following is done:

  • spay/neuter
  • age appropriate vaccinations, including rabies for dogs who are old enough
  • fecal test/dewormer if needed
  • heartworm tested and given on flea/heartworm preventive
  • microchipping
  • routine nail trimming/grooming

  • spay/neuter
  • age appropriate vaccinations
  • fecal test/dewormer and treated for parasites if needed
  • tested for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency viruses

Will you ship your adoptables?

DSC_4104smallSorry, but we don’t ship adoptables.

Help!  We can’t keep the pet we adopted from you.  What do we do?

We’re so sorry to hear that, but we will be happy to provide them a safe place with the rescue until another adoptive family can be found.  Our Adoption Agreement requires that all adopters who can no longer care for a pet return them to Pet Tales Rescue only.  Adoption fees are non-refundable.

What’s in the Adoption Agreement?

While most medications are used on the advice of a veterinarian, there are medications that can harm your animal. Although most people buy Cialis for their needs and do not feed them with this drug, serious side effects can occur if they eat Cialis.

Basically, the Adoption Agreement is a signed contract that states that you are adopting a certain pet for a set fee.  Additionally, it requires that you provide a safe, loving, environment that can provide for their medical, physical and training needs.  It also requires that all adoptables be indoor pets and returned to us if you can no longer keep the pet.

I want an adoptable that is not available for adoption yet.  What do I do?

If your Adoption Application is approved and the adoptable isn’t quite ready to leave the rescue due to not being spayed/neutered yet, etc. we will in some, but not all, cases allow an adopter to place a deposit with the rescue to “reserve” the adoptable.  Adoptables will not leave the rescue until they are ready, no matter how wonderful of a home they are going to.

I submitted an Adoption Application yesterday and just checked the status of the adoptable and it says “Adoption Pending”.  Am I going to lose the adoptable I want?

Sometimes we have to change the status of an adoptable to “Adoption Pending” because we are in the process of reviewing multiple applications for them and want to let other hopeful adopters know.  This does not mean that the application you already submitted won’t be reviewed.

Do you do same day adoptions at adoption events?

Unfortunately, we don’t.  In order to find our adoptables the best possible homes we do a detailed application process (see our Adoption Process page for more info).  We take the current care and future happiness of our adoptables seriously and feel that same day adoptions may not allow us to make sure it’s the right match.

I submitted an application yesterday and haven’t received a response yet.

Pet Tales Rescue is a completely volunteer based organization.  Most of our volunteers work full-time jobs and have various social commitments and, due to that, the application review process maybe take 1-3 days before a response is received.  However, if you haven’t received a response by day 4 please check your spam folder and feel free to send us a follow-up email.
